Brooders

A series of artworks for punk-grunge trio Brooders' series of 2019 singles, encapsulating themes of relationships and mental health issues through montage artworks of lyrical imagery.

Brooders
is

A kicking screaming trio of psych-garage. Formed in 2016, this band prides themselves on their hard-hitting fuzzed-up riffs, and are well known for their eccentric live presence and consistently heavy releases.

My role

Brooders commissioned me to create a series of artworks for their singles between 2018 and 2019. I was given wide artistic freedom, developing a signature collage style for the series while encapsulating the lyrical themes of relationships and mental health issues.

Scope

Brooders commissioned me to create a series of artworks for their singles between 2018 and 2019. I was given wide artistic freedom, developing a signature collage style for the series while encapsulating the lyrical themes of relationships and mental health issues.

I've got a long history with the guys in Brooders. We went to university together. I recorded some of their music when there was just the two of them for an assignment. I've taken press photos for them in the woods, gone on UK tours capturing the excitement of their live performances, and in 2019 I was lucky enough for them to trust me with creating the artwork for an entire series of singles released throughout the year.

With an open brief, Brooders allowed me to develop a distinct artistic style and interpret their songs into the way I saw them, as long as they reflected the subjects accurately. The songs covered a range of specific ideas, but mostly circled around relationships and mental health.
